What we found across thousands of contractor websites
These are not edge cases. Each number below is the share of home-services sites in our audit that fail that check. Every one of them is a job that went to someone else.
Not mobile-friendly
Four out of five fail a basic mobile check. A homeowner with a leaking roof or a dead furnace is calling from a phone, and a site that does not fit the screen loses them to the first competitor whose does.
The fix. Responsive, server-rendered pages that pass mobile usability and load fast on a phone.
Exposed admin login
Nearly a quarter leave the WordPress admin login open to the public internet. That is the front door to the whole site left unlocked, and it is how most small-contractor site breaches start.
The fix. Locked-down access, or a static build with no public login to attack.
No sitemap
More than a third have no XML sitemap. New service pages sit undiscovered for weeks while the competition gets indexed the same day.
The fix. An automatic sitemap so every service and area page is found the day it goes live.
No meta description
A third give Google nothing to show under their name. So Google writes its own summary, and the click goes to the contractor who wrote a real one.
The fix. Every page gets a written title and description aimed at what homeowners search.
No service-area pages
The signature contractor failure: one generic site with no pages for the towns you actually serve. The money queries are local, "roofer near me", "[your town] HVAC repair", and without a page built for each area, you never show up for any of them.
The fix. Dedicated service-area pages targeting the exact towns and counties your customers live in.

What good looks like
A small number of contractor sites in the same audit scored at the top: fast on mobile, a page for every town they serve, and clean local schema. The gap between those sites and the average one is not the size of the crew. It is whether anyone built the site to be found where the work is.
Blue Ridge Home Pro, built to rank locally
Blue Ridge Home Pro is a home-services company in the Lynchburg, VA area. We built the site on Astro SSR behind Cloudflare, with a dedicated page for each part of the service area and clean local structured data, so it ranks for the towns where the customers actually are.
Service-area pages
A dedicated page for Bedford and Amherst counties and the surrounding towns, targeting the local terms homeowners search.
LocalBusiness schema
Every page carries LocalBusiness and BreadcrumbList markup, so search engines know exactly what the business does and where it serves.
Fast and crawlable
Server-rendered from a Node process, so pages are fast and fully readable by Google from day one.
We work with contractors across the country, and we are based in Lynchburg, serving Central Virginia from Roanoke to Richmond directly. Roofing, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or landscaping, the build is the same: fast, local, and yours to own.
