Realtor Website Design That Actually Ranks

We audited 7,016 real estate websites. The average scored 41 out of 100 on SEO, the worst of any industry we measure. Here is exactly what is broken, and how we build agent sites that get found.

What we found across 7,016 agent websites

These are not edge cases. Each number below is the share of real estate sites in our audit that fail that check. Any one of them is a listing a buyer never finds.

68%

Not mobile-friendly

More than two thirds fail a basic mobile usability check. Most buyers search listings on a phone, so a desktop-only layout loses them before the first photo loads.

The fix. Responsive, server-rendered pages that pass mobile usability and Core Web Vitals.

48%

No meta description

Nearly half ship pages with no meta description, so Google writes its own snippet, or shows nothing compelling. That is a click you paid for with content and then gave away.

The fix. Every page gets a written title and description tuned to the query it targets.

46%

No sitemap

Almost half have no XML sitemap. New listings and area pages can sit undiscovered for weeks while the competition gets indexed the same day.

The fix. An automatic sitemap that updates the moment a listing or page goes live.

12%

Exposed admin login

One in eight leaves the WordPress admin login open to the public internet. That is the front door to the whole site left unlocked, and it is how most small-site breaches start.

The fix. Locked-down access, or a static/headless build with no public login to attack.

IDX

Listings Google cannot read

The signature real estate failure: property search bolted on as a third-party IDX iframe. The listings render in a frame Google does not index, so the pages buyers actually want never rank.

The fix. A native MLS/IDX integration that renders real, crawlable HTML for every listing.

What good looks like

A small number of agent sites in the same audit scored at the top: 100 on performance, 90 and above on SEO. It is possible, it is just rare. The gap between the average site and the best one is not budget. It is whether anyone built the site to be found in the first place.

The Realty Group, rebuilt to rank

Teresa Grant is a Keller Williams agent in Lynchburg, VA. We rebuilt her site on Astro SSR with a native Rapattoni MLS/IDX integration and local area pages. The results show up in Google Search Console, not in a pitch.

+99%

Search impressions over the trailing 90 days versus the year before (51,300 vs 25,782).

27 → 11

Average Google position, moving her from page three toward the top of page one.

100

Lighthouse performance score, held to the hero-video LCP standard.

We work with agents and brokerages across the country, and we are based in Lynchburg, serving the Central Virginia market from Roanoke to Richmond directly. Wherever you are, the build is the same: fast, crawlable, and yours to own.
